Mura River

With occasional rapids, the Mura river, the soul of Pomurje, leads to the core of the Pannonian world past ships, floating mills, islets, mighty forests, gravel pits and still parts of the river.

Descend the river by boat, sit beside it in the shade of trees, watch its flow in progress – get to know the soul of the Pomurje region, get to know the Mura River.

Although the Pannonian world is characterized by plains and a tranquil way of life, the Mura River is anything but lazy – most of its stream along Pomurje is playful and full of rapids. Sometimes it is shrouded in mist, which transforms the Mura into a mystical charming river that leads to the core of the Pannonian world, past ships, mills, islets, mighty forests, gravel pits and still parts of the river. Very often, however, Mura is radiant with the sun, which gives her a very special charm. Indulge in it, and it will “take” you through a traditional landscape into a magical world of biodiversity with various plant species, birds, dragonflies, butterflies, snails and shells. A true paradise for nature lovers, be it for leisure or relaxation.

On both banks of the Mura River (the left bank extends from Austria to Lendava, while the right bank extends from the Austrian border in the north to the Croatian border in the south) you are invited by numerous well-maintained cycling trails that provide adventures around the bends and turns that cross the Mura along the entire route with classic bridges or also by boat rides. Active athletes can indulge in marked cycling trails, but can also partake in other types of recreation, while seeing many cultural and natural attractions in the immediate vicinity. There are plenty of opportunities to taste local cuisine and great wines, to regenerate. We especially recommend a break at the nearby thermal waters with beneficial effects.
