Seeds for life

Soboško jezero, Murska Sobota
The exhibition, prepared by the Society for the Observation and Study of Birds, will be on display by Lake Soboška until the end of 2024.

The Association for the Observation and Study of Prits of Slovenia, together with the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, the Goričko Krajinski Park Public Institute, the Triglav National Park Public Institute and the Notranjski Regional Park, implements the project LIFE FOR SEEDS - Preservation of priority grassland habitat types in Slovenia by establishing a seed bank and restoration in situ.

They focus on the protection of three highly endangered habitat types, namely:

  • Dry meadows with cuckoos,
  • Travnikov with an ordinary wolf and
  • Interspersed lakes.

For these three types, a seed bank will be established, in which 12,000 seed samples of at least 300 different species will be stored at a very low temperature, collected in 21 Natura 2000 areas around Slovenia. Thus, they want to restore 74.1 ha of meadows and become a portal of well-preserved, rich meadows that will serve as a meeting point between consumers and potential seed producers.

The exhibition will be on view by Lake Soboška until the end of the year, so you are invited to take a walk and see the exhibition.
