Pomurje
Pomurje is a sun-drenched landscape around the Mura River, comprising Prlekija, part of Štajerska (Styria) and Prekmurje, which ascends from the river and stream wetlands of the Ravenska world into the wine-growing and afforested hills of Goričko with Lendava and Slovenian hills, as well as Prlekija with Jerusalem vineyards. While in the lowlands, you can relax in many thermal spas with springs of thermal waters. The locals on the wine-growing slopes can embellish your stop with unforgettable experiences with some good wine and culinary delicacies, while the sounds of the local band and the panoramic views of the vineyard terraces, church bell towers and cottages pamper all of your senses.
But Pomurje is not just the Mura river, gibanica, ham, Kreslin and storks. On the contrary – Pomurje is a meeting point of different cultures, religions and ethnic groups, as it is home to the Roma and the Hungarian minority. Tightly trapped in a cross-border area, this landscape is spiced with Austrian, Hungarian and Slavic influences from neighboring countries. Here you will discover the cultural heritage in small villages and towns, the breathtaking beauty of nature, rocking the historical heritage in its embrace, and the language groups, present in many dialects today.
Nature, cultural and historical heritage in Pomurje, have been intertwined for centuries. The small towns, villages and remote places guard the memory of a past and a tradition that has been forgotten in time.
